Asiatic Black Bear

Ursus thibetanus
Bears

A medium-sized bear known for the distinct white V-shaped mark on its chest.

The Asiatic black bear is easily identified by its smooth black coat and a distinctive white or cream V-shaped mark on its chest. They possess a thick mane around their neck and shoulders, making their upper bodies appear exceptionally robust. These bears are heavily built with large, rounded ears and strong, curved claws perfectly adapted for climbing trees. They primarily inhabit deciduous and mixed forests across mountainous regions in southern and eastern Asia. As highly adaptable animals, they can thrive in diverse environments ranging from lush tropical rainforests to snowy alpine elevations. Their diet relies heavily on the seasonal availability of vegetation found throughout these heavily wooded habitats.
