They are gentle, friendly, loyal and intelligence

The Golden Retriever (often simply called a Golden) is one of the most popular dog breeds in the world and in Cambodia. Originating from Scotland, they are widely recognized for their beautiful appearance, friendly nature, and high intelligence.

General Characteristics

  • Temperament: They are gentle, friendly, loyal, and love interacting with people, especially children. Because of their non-aggressive nature, they do not make good guard dogs, but they are perfect as family pets.
  • Intelligence: Goldens are highly trainable and eager to please. They are frequently trained as service dogs to assist the visually impaired or individuals with other disabilities.
  • Physical Traits: They possess a thick, water-repellent double coat in shades of gold or light cream. Their average weight ranges between 25 to 34 kg (55 to 75 lbs), and they have a lifespan of 10 to 12 years.

Essential Care & Maintenance

  • Shedding: They are heavy shedders, especially during seasonal changes. They require daily brushing and regular grooming to manage their coat and minimize loose hair around the house.
  • Exercise Needs: Goldens are high-energy dogs. They need at least 40 to 60 minutes of daily exercise, such as walking, running, or swimming, to stay healthy and prevent boredom-induced behavior like chewing.

In Cambodia, Golden Retrievers (including standard and oversize variations) are widely bred and available. The price for a puppy generally ranges from $350 to $600+, depending on their health status, vaccination record, and pedigree.
