white rose-Ringed Parakeet

A white Rose-ringed Parakeet (colloquially known as the white Indian Ringneck) is a stunning, captive-bred color mutation of the naturally green Psittacula krameri.

Genetics & Varieties

While wild parakeets rely on their green feathers for jungle camouflage, selective breeding in captivity has produced two primary types of white variations:

• Albino: This is the most common true white variety. A genetic mutation strips away all melanin (dark pigment) and psittacin (yellow pigment). True albinos have pure white feathers, a bright red beak, and distinctive red/pink eyes.
• Clearflight White / Leucistic: Unlike albinos, leucistic or clearflight mutations retain dark or black eyes. Some may have very faint blue undertones or shadows where their signature neck ring would normally sit.
• The "Ring": In standard green parakeets, adult males develop a striking black and pink collar around their necks. In the albino variety, this ring disappears entirely because the bird cannot produce the dark pigments required to display it.
• Size & Shape: They maintain the exact structural features of the wild species—measuring about 16 to 17 inches (40 to 42 cm) long with a highly elegant, exceptionally elongated tail.
• Personality: White ringnecks are highly prized in the pet trade because they are incredibly intelligent, social, and capable of learning an extensive vocabulary of human speech.
